The purpose of the Distinguished Alumni Award is “to bestow recognition and appreciation for outstanding achievement. The award is a meritorious reflection on the school and provides inspiration and encouragement for our young people.

In the United Kingdom, we have a number of old Girls spanning the 1958 to the 2002-year group.  While most live in the South, we have a few scattered in other parts of the country. We enjoy chatting on the WhatsApp platform and we support each other in other ways when we can.  Year groups are very active and friends’ groups cut across years, houses and generations.

For many years, we have been lucky to have the Crown Court Church of Scotland as a free meeting place.  This came about purely as a result of a chance meeting of two teachers who became friends – one an old Girl and the other, the Minister’s wife.

Our year begins with the thanksgiving service which we synchronise with the thanksgiving service back at school in Ghana. It is always the last Sunday in January. We provide lunch at the end of the thanksgiving service and the congregation also participate.

This year, Crown Court Church celebrated their tri-centenary.  We attended the thanksgiving service and made a donation to The Passage; who are a homelessness charity, in support of the Church’s work with women.
In previous years, the congregation have supported a student at the school, who has gone on to become a qualified nurse.

Our next annual event is the barbecue, which used to be hosted by one of the Old Girls.  We have outgrown this now however and this year hired premises to accommodate our growing numbers plus our families.  This event is one many look forward to in the height of summer.

Our Dinner Dances are held once every two years and we use these to raise funds for various projects. We also use this as an opportunity to network with Alumni of various schools and catch up with friends we have not seen for years.  It is an opportunity for Old Girls to work together and show off their various talents where we can.

We hope to grow our network of Old Girls and keep the flame which started up on the Akwapim Ridge burning brightly!!!
